With the acronym PPE ("Personal Protective Equipment"), the legislation (Legislative Decree 81/2008) refers to "any equipment intended to be worn and kept by the worker in order to protect them against one or more risks that is likely to threaten their safety or health at work, as well as any complement or accessory intended for this purpose ".

• ensure perfect operator visibility;
• facilitate a more immediate identification of the operator in an emergency, through the use of reflective and / or fluorescent bands;
• allow the performance of efficiency checks, aimed at verifying the permanence over time of the protective characteristics of the device, in accordance with what is indicated by the manufacturer;
• ensure adequate ease of use, through a correct choice of materials and knowledge of the target activity - and the related operating scenarios - to which the device is addressed.

In fire-fighting PPE they are classified according to specific categories:

• First category: Simply designed PPE intended to safeguard people from risks of minor physical damage (superficial injuries, minor impacts, contact with hot objects at no more than 50° C)
• Third category: PPE of complex design intended to safeguard against the risk of death or serious injury and of a permanent nature (contact with flames and / or molten materials, temperatures above 50° C, breathing of solid aerosols and gases.
• Second category: all PPE that do not fall into the previous categories.
